Cancun Honeymoon

Hello from Cancun!  Five months after our wedding, we went on our honeymoon to sunny Cancun.  The people there said it was the coldest is has been in a long time, but we were still in our shorts and t-shirts.  It was a little chilly a couple of the nights (60 degrees) and then it warmed up nicely the rest of the week.  It was pretty windy most of the time we were there so we weren't able to do too many water activities.  We had a great time, though, and it was beautiful.  After six days, we were ready to come back to our home and the kids.

We stayed at the El Dorado Royale which was about 20 minutes from Cancun or about 10 minutes from Playa de Carmen.  It was an all-inclusive, adult only resort.  It was beautiful, the people were very friendly and helpful and the accommodations were excellente!

This was the towel arrangement waiting for us in our room.  The room was a swim-up jacuzzi suite.  Right outside the back deck door was a "lazy river" that you could follow to the main pool.  It was a little chilly so we didn't take advantage of that feature, but we did take advantage of the jacuzzi!

Part of our honeymoon package included a candlelight dinner on the beach.  It was really nice and ended with this dessert.  Nice touch!

This is the beach.  It's not a great beach because Hurricane Wilma in 2005 decimated the beach area.  All of the sand ended up in the buildings rather than in the water.  The resort is in the process of building up the beach to put it back into its pristine beauty pre-hurricane which will still take several years.

On a cloudy day, we went ATVing.  We found a great deal outside of the resort.  It was a 4-hour expedition through the jungle that included the ATV, a light snack, swimming/jumping into cenotes (more later), zip lines and a visit to a truly Mayan village.  It was a blast!

It was a bit dusty on some of the roads so they supplied the bandanas.  "Outlaw Jace."

This is a picture of one of the cenotes which is an underground cave that is filled with water.  Typically, they are more of a cave, but those don't take very good pictures so this is one that's open.  We could've made the 25' jump into the cenote which is about 165' deep.  It's fresh water and it wasn't too cold.  

 This is one of the underground cenotes.  Jace was the brave one and jumped from above ground, through the hole into the cave of water.  I "volunteered" to record it while in the cave.  I did eventually get into the water and we swam around for awhile.  It was pretty cool!

This was the hammock outside our door.  It was wonderful and we took a couple siestas on it!

Iguana were frequent visitors at the resort and could be found sunning themselves throughout the day.  This was a pretty little one.  Later in the week, we saw a huge one that looked to be about the size of AJ!

We had a great time and definitely would like to do something like this again! We want to thank Grandma and Grandpa Ahlberg for watching Trent and AJ while we were away and the kids for working out their schedules to spend time with Trent during that week, too. Without the help of everyone, our honeymoon wouldn't have been as fun and relaxing as it was so THANK YOU to everyone!
